Worship Moment of the Week: The Gift of Faith

Faith is the first step towards belief. We typically believe what we can see, so stepping out in belief is usually based on what we know to be true by what we’ve been through. Faith is a gift from God. I’ve written about this before: we are given faith, by our heavenly Father, and we get to choose what we put our faith in. Faith that stirs in our hearts reminds us of who and Whose we are. We hear and read about Jesus and what He did for us and our faith turns into belief in Him. Where our heart is there our treasure will be also… (Matthew 6:21). Our hearts are where our faith is stored, whatever grabs the attention of our hearts is where we put our faith. It’s from there that our belief system is birthed.

Scripture tells us about faith, faith the way God set it up for us.

Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith (pi’stis) is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
God gave us the ability to have faith and when we put it into the One who created us we are connecting to the spiritual realm. Faith makes God tangible instead of mythological. This faith goes ways beyond mental acceptance of the “facts” and launches us into a supernatural lifestyle where signs and wonders become the norm.

Faith is the gift from God…

Ephesians 2:8… “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”
This faith is what is deep inside us, in our very souls, giving us the ability to believe in the supernatural and not rely on the natural. Our belief in God and what Jesus did for us on the cross comes from this source of faith. When our faith isn’t rooted in Him, we end up with a shallow faith and develop a belief system that is destined to fail. Our beliefs come out of a learning process. If we aren’t grounded in The Word and the Holy Spirit being our guide, we become disillusioned by what we see around us. We begin learning bad teachings or behaviors and believe that it is truth. Our beliefs aren’t our foundation, our faith is. Beliefs without a solid faith in God our Father have us wandering like a nomad in the desert, seeking and searching for another system to plug in to. Jesus is the way, the truth and the light to our beliefs being solid for the rest of our lives.

Faith, locked into our security and knowledge of Jesus and all that He has done for us, gives us freedom to follow Him. Even when everything around us seems to be falling apart we have faith and believe that He is with us! Other systems will fail and beliefs get challenged, but our assurance is that our faith has an eternal destination. We believe we will have everlasting life in Jesus Christ. Faith isn’t a “set it and forget it” thing. Our beliefs will be challenged! This is why it’s so important that our faith is grounded in the One that was, and is to come!

This Christmas Season I pray for a renewed faith for all. I pray that Emmanuel, God with us, causes our belief to become even bolder! There is a world out there that needs to hear the truth about Jesus this year. When someone unwraps the faith God placed down in their hearts and believes that Jesus was born so that they would be reborn in Him, there are a multitude of angels singing! Let’s give the angels reason to sing this Christmas and tell someone the greatest news ever given, Jesus.

Have a blessed week.
Merry Christmas-
