“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).”

The daily temptation is to believe our list of tasks and needs are something we can accomplish because we have the best plans. But what happens when it doesn’t go as expected and people thwart our efforts to efficiently check off items on our list? What if God Himself is at work in these distractions, trying to convince us that His priority is always the hearts of people and not conquering a project, no matter how noble it may be?

Our good and gracious heavenly Daddy cares about the details of our day. He who started a good work in you delights in finishing the task as well. We can trust His goodness and pleasure today. We can trust that His purposes, though sometimes aggravating in the moment, are for our good. Will you be still today, on the inside, leaning in to His voice and holding all things before Him? Will you trust that today’s issues, regardless of their size and importance, are on His mind too and He truly cares about the outcome?

Trust that He knows you and the way you think. He enjoys you, and wants you to experience the peace that He gives, which can survive interruptions and mistakes. Peace built on “things going as planned” is fragile at best. Embrace His peace with thanksgiving, acknowledging that the Prince of Peace Himself has taken up residence within you and is always available. He is not busy, like you. 🙂
