“Pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus”
(1 Thessalonians 5:17-18).
Jesus commanded His children: “When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not become alarmed and panic stricken and terrified” (Luke 21:9). This seem a somewhat difficult directive for today’s people living in a society where there are school killings, marathon bombings, terrorist attacks, and mass shootings in the most common of places. Yet, a prayerful presence of peace is what Christ commands. Instead of expecting the worst, children of God are to have faith in the Father who has control of every situation.
But how do we grow that faith? Pray continually and thank God for each and every situation. Amid this gratitude, a sense of peace will prevail for we are reaffirming to ourselves and to God that He means to use every situation for our ultimate good. Thus, there is no reason for alarm. We know there is more to this life than what is seen, heard, and felt on this physical plane, and that our God and Father has a bigger and better plan and kingdom for us. Based on that, a continual prayer for peace and a never-ending stream of thank yous no matter what happens are two of our most powerful tools on earth-and in heaven. Keep focused on Jesus. Keep praises continually on your lips.
