“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Corinthians 3:17).

Rules exist to keep order in our lives and to establish boundaries. Parents have rules for their children; the police have rules for drivers. All are necessary for us to get along with each other, to cooperate. And when people operate completely outside of the rules, chaos can ensue. So when we begin life as a Christian we learn that Jesus did not come to bring chaos; He came to bring each of us a new life.

In scripture, Paul was speaking to the church in Corinth, but he certainly wasn’t telling them to throw caution to the wind and live completely outside the box. What he was saying was once the Spirit of the Living God lives inside you, there is freedom, an emancipation from the bondage, a release from sin. What a cause for rejoicing! Free indeed. But we cannot live this way in our own power. When we form this covenant with God and are saved, then with Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we can defeat the enemy who is trying to steal and destroy. Put on this armor to face the world. Be ready for the fight. Look to the Word to provide you with the needed tools to walk through each day. Ask God to quicken you to hear His voice.
